A Point of View – Global Outsourcing and the Business Analyst

I began working in Information Systems and Technology in the mid 1970s. At that time, we analysed business requirements, wrote the programs, tested and implemented information systems and managed the project, all within the same organization. Packaged software, or ERPs, did not exist. Companies such as IBM and Digital Equipment sold computers, not software or services. The WWW was not invented and India mostly exported tea.

Today, most organizations will outsource some or all of their information systems. They may outsourcing support for an ERP, or the design and implementation of a customized turnkey system. Offshore services may provide support to the help desk, or provide business process services such as payroll or accounting services.
